PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On October 20, “Tkuma” Institute celebrated anniversary– 20 years of existence. We have organized several festive events on this occasion:

Recently, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” received unique exhibits – personal items of an extraordinary person, a famous memoirist, Red Army soldier Volodymyr Gelfand. In 1933, being 10 old boy, he and his family moved to Dnipropetrovsk, where he studied before the Germany attack on the Soviet Union. During World War II, 19-year-old Volodymyr came to the front as a private soldier, became a lieutenant and commanded a mortar platoon. He fought near Kharkiv, took part in the defense of Stalingrad and in the liberation of Ukraine and Poland. He came to Berlin and ended the war in Germany, where he remained with the occupation corps until September 1946. Everything that he saw and experienced, Volodymyr noted in a diary, which he kept from April 1941 to December 1946 – both at the front, and in the military hospital, and at the school of young officers.

On October 16, the round table “From the Union of Lublin to the European Union” organized due to close cooperation between the Dnipro Development Agency, Oles Honchar Dnipro National University and the Government of the City of Lublin (Poland) was held in Dnipro. The event was dedicated to anniversary date – 450- anniversary from the Union of Lublin formation.

Welcoming speech made prof. Serhii Svitlenko, dean of the history department of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, who emphasized the importance of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation, especially in the educational and scientific fields, and Krzysztof Lontka, director of the office of non-investment projects in Lublin City Hall.
