On May 8–9, traditionally Ukraine honors the Remembrance and Reconciliation Day and Victory Day over Nazism in World War II. These days, the world community commemorates the tragic events of this bloodiest global military conflict, during which, according to various estimates, from 50 to 85 million people died.

The red poppy flower is a symbol of the memory of the victims not only of World War II, but also of all military and civil armed conflicts since 1914, which represents a bloody trace of a bullet. Its appearance is associated with John McCrae poems, Canadian military doctor (1915) and Moina Michael, representatives of the Christian association of young women (1918), in which they mentioned the red poppy as a sign of mourning for the fallen. This symbol was first used in 1920 by the National American Legion to honor the memory of American soldiers who died during the First World War., The red poppy began to be used in Ukraine from 2014 as a symbol of memory of the victims of World War II at the state level.
