PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On May 14, Ukraine commemorated the Day of Ukrainians who rescued Jews during World War II. The phenomenon of rescue during the Holocaust is one of the important aspects of the history of survival during the Nazi genocide. By studying the actions of the Rescuers and Righteous Among the Nations of the world, we simultaneously have the opportunity to look at a number of different issues: the context of pre-war relations between the Rescuers and victims of Nazi persecution, the peculiarities of the influence of specific circumstances of the occupation regime in various zones of the territories where the so-called “New Order” was established, on the dynamics of mass murder and, accordingly, survival strategies, etc.

These and other issues were discussed during a lecture for participants of the public project Youth Parliament of Ukraine (Dnipro branch), which was held by Dr. Yehor Vradii, Deputy Director of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies. The listeners, most of whom were high school students from the city, were offered a dialogical form of the lesson. An important role in it was played by the testimonies of people who managed to survive the Catastrophe, contemporaries of the genocide. Also, during the lesson, the content of the documentary film “The Righteous” (2019, dir. – Yevhen Tytarenko), whose scientific consultants were employees of “Tkuma” Institute, was discussed.
