PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On March 6, a “historical webinar” was held for teachers on the topic “Competency Assessment in History Lessons: How the Textbook Helps Create Diagnostic Work in Grade 9.”

The webinar participants discussed one of the most relevant topics in modern Ukrainian education - the features of competency assessment and practical tools for creating diagnostic work in accordance with the requirements of the New Ukrainian School.

The speakers of the event were Ukrainian teachers and co-authors of history textbooks for grade 9 Vladyslav Krongauz, Oleksandr Zheliba, and Dr. Igor Shchupak.

The meeting discussed how modern Ukrainian schools have transformed approaches to assessment – from the traditional 5-point system to a multi-level competency approach that considers different groups of learning outcomes. In particular, the participants considered how to assess students’ ability to navigate in historical time and space, work with historical information, and form civic stance and cooperation skills.

Special attention was paid to how the new textbooks of the Orion Educational and Cultural Center – “History of Ukraine”, “World History” and “Ukraine and the World” by the author team under the leadership of Dr. Shchupak – help teachers implement the competency-based approach in practice.

The webinar became a platform for professional discussion of modern challenges in history education and exchange of practical experience between teachers.

The recording of the broadcast can be viewed at the link.
