On April 23, deputy director of “Tkuma” Institute, Dr. Yehor Vradii, held an online meeting with teachers in Odesa and delivered a lecture “The Holocaust as an Integral Part of Ukrainian National History.” The meeting was held with the assistance of the Odesa Center for Professional Development of Pedagogical Workers. The event was moderated by the Center’s consultant in civics and history, Serhiy Penyayev.
During the lecture, participants were invited to look at the history of the Holocaust in Ukraine through the prism of the memory of the Nazi genocide, as well as analyze the myths and stereotypes formed during the Soviet era and in the period after Ukraine regained its independence in 1991.
Special attention was paid to the issues of integrating the history of the Holocaust into the Ukrainian national historical narrative, the importance of critical reflection on the past, and the role of historical education in shaping a culture of remembrance.
The participants of the meeting had the opportunity to join a professional discussion on modern approaches to teaching the history of the Holocaust and its significance for understanding Ukrainian and European history of the 20th century.
