PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On July10, International forum “Those who return the faith to a human: Righteous among the Nations in Dnipropetrovsk”, organized by the Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration together with “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” was held in Dnipro. The event gathered more than 60 guests from Dnipro and region – scientists, museum workers, public figures, and veterans of World War II.

On July 08, a respectable visitor – Dr. Olena Prokopovych (Rochester, NY), associate professor, department of political sciences of Nazareth College, program director for legal studies came to “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies together with our longtime partner, Dr. Oleh Repan (Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Institute of Dnipro History). During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation in the educational and scientific spheres, exchange of literature, participation in joint publishing projects were discussed.

During June 25–30, International educational project “Historical narratives and multiperspectivity. World War II: about stories and silence” was held in Gdansk, organized by International education center in Dortmund (IBB Dortmund) and Minsk International educational center named after J. Rau (IBB Minsk) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany in cooperation with partners – The Ukrainian Oral History Association, Foundation for the Brest Fortress Development, “The Holocaust” Foundation. Young historians, educators, representatives of the historical education field from Belarus, Russia, Germany and Ukraine became the participants of the project. Maryna Strilchuk, researcher of “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” was invited to participate in this project.

On June 27, Vadim Sidur (outstanding sculptor, graphic artist, painter, and poet) commemorative evening was held at the Museum of Ukrainian Arts, together with Vadim Sidur School of Modern Arts and Design and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”. 

On June 27, David Lau, chief Ashkenaz rabbi of Israel visited Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” within the framework of his few-day visit to Dnipro. Pinchas Althohyz, head of the Chief Rabbi of Israel and the Rabbi of Cholon apparatus, as well as Shmuel Kaminetzky, chief rabbi of Dnipro and the region, accompanied him. The guest paid particular attention to the exhibitions associated with the emergence and spread of the Hasidic currents, the traditions of the Jews lives in Ukraine, the fate of political repressions victims in 1930’s. (in particular – Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, Dnipropetrovsk chief rabbi). The honored guest was impressed by the level of the Museum development.
