PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

International Museum Day traditionally falls on the third Saturday of May. The Jewish Museum on this day cannot work, that’s why we joined the celebration of the Museum Day on Sunday, May 19th.

May 19th – Victims of Political Repressions Remembrance Day. This date in Ukraine is a day of mourning. Also, the topic of political violence is an integral part of the of our Museum exhibition. The thematic focus of our Museum excludes the possibility of entertaining activities. That’s why, we offered to our visitors a number of interesting educational events to the International Museum Day.

This day the entrance to the Museum was free. Every two hours the guided tour at the Museum was conducted – the visitors got acquainted not only with the traditional Jewish world, but also with a special emphasis on exhibitions devoted to Soviet and Nazi repressions. The greatest stir caused Dr. Igor Shchupak, director of the Holocaust Museum author's interactive guided tour director. More than 60 people came to listen to his tour.

Except the usual opportunity to see just exhibits, this day visitors were able to touch history literally – because during the day the Museum showed exhibits from the museum's stores and this possibility gave Liudmyla Sandul, chief custodian of funds. Opportunity not only to see reflected in the appropriate exhibition, but also to hear the live world of the Jewish song let Julia Mandych performance, the soloist of Dnipro Philharmonic named after L. Kohan.

A separate event of this day was focused on the memory of political repressions victims. Victor Khazan – scientist, public figure and political leader held a lecture-conversation on «History of the country in the history of the family». Communication with visitors was devoted to Soviet repressions – from 1920 to 1980, and how it were reflected in the ordinary citizen’s lives.
