PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On February 12, the round table “Expansion of the historical pantheon and its boundary in the national idea context”, organized by the Center for the Studies of Political Values together with “Revival” International foundation supported by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies, was held in Dnipro. Historians, political experts, journalists and Kyiv and Dnipro writers became the participants of debate.

The round table was held within the framework of the project “Transformation of national idea according to time challenges” which includes series of round tables and scientific conferences with the participation of Ukrainian historians, philosophers, cultural, public and spiritual persons, opinion leaders. According to organizers, purpose of the project is definition of “new modern and successful Ukrainian dream using national asset and solving existing problems”. Yan Valietov, writer (Dnipro), Pavlo Hai-Nyzhnyk, doctor of historical sciences (Kyiv), Dmytro Kapranov, writer (Kyiv), Oleksandr Kochetkov, political expert (Kyiv), Vitalii Kulik, political expert (Kyiv), Oleh Repan, historian, associate professor of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, director of Dnipro Institute, Vladyslav Romanov, political expert (Dnipro), Oleh Rostovtsev, Dnipro city council advisor for nationalities and relations with religious communities, Dmytro Povorotnyi, Dnipro diocese chaplain of Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Volodymyr Serhiichuk, doctor of historical sciences (Kyiv), Dr. Igor Shchupak were invited to participate in the work of the round table. Oleksandr Donii (Kyiv), journalist, head of the Center for the Studies of Political Values moderated the event.

During the discussion, which was very fruitful, participants talked about national heroes and not heroes, peacetime and wartime heroes. Which historical pantheon does Ukraine need? Can a hero of one people be an enemy for another one? Does the ethnocentric approach to the study of history have to be prevailing? How do historical myths influence on the formation of our historical pantheon? What kind of heroes do we have to crown in the city space and how this process should be done? How did Dnipro become the leader in the carrying out the process of decommunization? This is far from complete list of questions, which were discussed within the framework of the round table.

Full video of the discussion will be available soon.
