PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On March 22, Dr. Igor Shchupak held an online meeting with students – participants in the regional stage of the subject Olympiads on the history of the Sumy region and their teachers.

The seminar was attended by over 50 participants. The topic of the meeting was “Truth, myths, fakes in history” – issues that are particularly relevant today in the context of information warfare and the active spread of manipulation of historical facts.

During the seminar, participants discussed what the concept of “rewriting history” means, what is the difference between “myths”, as well as how modern history education can help students perceive information critically. Special attention was paid to the new textbooks for 9th grades by “Orion” Publishing House, which present interesting historical facts, refute common fakes and debunk myths.

In particular, the textbooks “History of Ukraine”, “World History” and the integrated course “History of Ukraine and Civic Education”, created by a team of authors under the leadership of Dr. Shchupak, were discussed. The participants discussed the importance of the Ukrainian perspective on world history and considering the historical events of Ukraine in a broader European and global context and had the opportunity to test their knowledge and skills in critical analysis of historical information.

“Tkuma” Institute will continue to hold similar educational seminars and historical webinars, as the development of critical thinking and the ability to distinguish facts from fakes is an important component of modern historical education.
