PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On November 4, 2025, as part of the seminar series “Ukrainian Tuesdays” (Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences), an online lecture “Ukrainian and Polish Rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust in Eastern Galicia” was held. The event for Ukrainian and Polish teachers and students was conducted by Dr. Igor Shchupak.

The lecture presented a few archival documents and personal stories of rescuers who knowingly risked their own lives to save Jews from extermination. The lecture examined the motives of these people, the reaction of the German occupation authorities to the rescue attempts, and the significance of the feat of the Righteous Among the Nations in the formation of modern humanistic consciousness.

The lecturer paid special attention to the specifics of the Nazi occupation policy in the territory of Eastern Galicia (1941–1944), where, in the complex relations of the “Ukrainian-Polish-Jewish triangle,” specific conditions for helping Jews were formed.

Dr. Shchupak emphasized that the “human dimension” of the heroism of the rescuers is universal and extremely relevant today — at a time when the Ukrainian people are experiencing a modern genocide committed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
