On June 25–29, 2018, Chornomorsk (Odesa region) welcomed Summer School for History Teachers “Social and Mass Media When Teaching World War II and the Holocaust History”, organized by “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”. History teachers from all over Ukraine participated in the event.

During the Summer School lecturers presented a number of extremely relevant reports on the peculiarities of creating an “enemy’s image’ during the Holocaust, the use of media in the process of teaching World War II and the Holocaust history, analysis of propaganda cinema before the war, anti-Semitism in the media of the era of Nazi occupation, etc.

In turn, teachers were able to share their methodological developments and studies on the use of different types of sources when teaching World War II and the Holocaust history, the methodology of teaching the history of “the final solution of the Jewish question” in different countries and other themes.

Also, within the framework of Summer School, teachers joined round table with members of the Ukrainian-Polish Committee, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of Ukraine and Poland and an open discussion “Using Social Media in Developing Adequate View of Youth on the War and the Holocaust”.

Educators visited the practical training-excursion “Polycultural space of Odesa” and the museum workshop “Historical heritage of Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky through the years and centuries”.
