PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

Dniprovsky Historical Club is another "Tkuma" Institute project conducted on the base of Museum "Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine" in cooperation with Institute of Social Studies. Historical club was created as a platform for meetings of historians and those interested in history with the aim of informal communication. Famous Ukrainian and foreign historians are invited to participate in each session of the club.

Within the framework of the project meetings with Prof. Vladyslav Hrynevych, Doctor of Political Sciences, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Leading Research Associate of the Institute of Politican and Ethnic Studies; Prof. Ivan Patrylyak, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Department of Modern History of Ukraine, Dean of the Faculty of History of Kyiv National University, and Prof. Yaroslav Hrytsak, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor of Ukrainian Catholic University, Director of Institute of Historical Research of Franko Lviv National University were conducted.

The project attracts the attention of historians, teachers, students and the intellectual elite of the city. From 50 to 300 people participate in the sessions.

During the club meetings professional historians raise urgent problems of historical memory of the Jewish and Ukrainian peoples. Its main objective is to destroy the stereotypes that hinder the successful intergration of the Jewish community as an important part of Ukrainian society.


On March 26, 2018 “Tkuma” Institute hosted the session of Dniprovsky Historical Club “Inter-religious dialogue in action: Andrey Sheptytsky’s attitude to discrimination against religious communities on the eve and during the Holocaust”. The club welcomed guests from Ukrainian Catholic University – Dr. Yaroslav Kit, researcher at the UCU Institute of Religion and Society, founder of the Internet edition “Ukrainska osvita” and Dr. Ihor Medvid, head of projects and program at the UCU Institute of Religion and Society.

On October 18, 2017 Dniprovsky Historical Club hosted lecture by Canadian researcher Jars Balan “Rhea Clyman: Forgotten Canadian Witness of Ukrainian Holodomor 1932-1933”. The session was organized by “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” together with Ukrainian-Jewish Encounter. Among the participants of the club there were students and educators of Dnipro National University, ethnographers, representatives of the public.

On October 15, 2017, the regular session of Dniprovsky Historical Club was conducted. The theme of the meeting was “Images of the Holocaust in Literature” and the presentation of Ukrainian translation of the book “Apte. Niedokończona powieść” (“Apte. Unfinished Story”)” by Piotr Głuchowski and Marcin Kowalski was held. “Tkuma” Institute has released the edition this year. Dr. Iegor Vradii, head of Research Department of Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” and author of the translation. Presented the publication.

On August 06, 2017 “Tkuma” Institute hosted regular session of Dniprovsky Historical Club. The event was joined by Frank Brendle, representative of German organization “Bildungswerk für Friedensarbeit”, coordinator of the exhibition “Genocide Against Roma – Remember to Resist”; historians Dr. Natalia Zinevych (Kyiv), Dr. Mykhailo Tiahlyi (Kyiv), and Dr. Igor Shchupak, director of “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum. Among the participants of the club there were students, teachers, and representatives of the Roma local community.

On July 16, 2017 the session of Dniprovsky Historical Club was conducted. The topic of the meeting was “Leonid Brezhnev and His Era: Politics, Society and the Jewish Question in Ukraine”. The session was held by Prof. Donald J. Raleigh (North Carolina, USA), who presented the notes to his new book – Leonid Brezhnev’s biography. The separate attention was paid to analysis of the foreign policy of the secretary general and his attitude to the “Jewish question”. The event was moderated by Prof. Sergei Zhuk (Ball State University, США).
