PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On December 5-7, an All-Ukrainian scientific and practical seminar on the Holocaust history for history teachers and methodologists was held in Lviv, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies.

The chief specialist of the Directorate of Pre-School, School, Out-of-School and Inclusive Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine Raisa Yevtushenko (Kyiv), Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Social Science Education of LOIPPO Kostyantyn Bakhanov (M. Lviv), head of the educational department of “Tkuma” Institute Iryna Piskaryova (Dnipro). And then a rich educational program awaited Ukrainian teachers:

- lectures-discussions on current problems of historical education and teaching the history of the Holocaust under the conditions of the modern war between Russia and Ukraine: “Some aspects of the application of a comparative approach to the study of world history of the 20th century.” (Prof. Kostyantyn Bakhanov); “Wars in the history of mankind and on the pages of school textbooks” (senior teacher of the department of social science education of the LoIPPO Iryna Vasylkiv); “A story about stories": micro-historical plots for understanding and teaching the history of the Holocaust” (Dr. Yehor Vradiy); How the history of the Holocaust, World War II and its consequences are taught according to the new textbooks of Ukraine and Russia” (Dr. Igor Shchupak);

- a meeting with methodologists of history of regional institutes of postgraduate pedagogical education;

- a meeting with the senior researcher of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Dr. Yurii Skira, on the eve of the publication of his new book “Solid”. Shoe factory of life”;

- discussion of the project “Conceptual principles of reforming historical education in the system of general secondary education” (head of the working group - doctor of historical sciences, director of the Ukrainian Research and Educational Center for the Study of the Holodomor Lyudmila Hrynevych, member of the working group for the development of the project - acting associate professor of the Department of Theory and teaching methods, methodologist of the laboratory of social and philological disciplines of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education Dr. Valerii Ostrovsky);

- practical lesson-excursion “Tragic pages of the history of the middle of the 20th century. in the context of the challenges of modernity” on the basis of the Memorial Museum of Totalitarian Regimes “Territory of Terror” (researcher Yurii Kodenko), as well as visiting places related to the tragedy of the Holocaust in Lviv, in particular, the place where the “Solid” shoe factory was located.

During the seminar, the participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences and share their own achievements in the field of studying and teaching the history of the Holocaust, discuss the challenges and problems facing Ukrainian history education today.
