PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

March 06–07, 2018 within the project EHRI (European Holocaust Research Infrastructure) Bucharest (Romania) hosted International Workshop “Borderlands: Archives, Research and Education”. Iryna Radchenko, “Tkuma” Institute research associate, was invited to participate in the event.

Among the participants of the workshop there were scholars and educators from different countries of the world (USA, Israel, Germany, Sweden, etc.), in particular Prof. D. Pohl (Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, Austria), S. Rosen (Yad Vashem, Israel), A. Jakab (Holocaust Memorial Center, Hungary), J. Hlavinka (Institute of History of Academy of Sciences, Slovakia), etc.

The theme of Iryna Radchenko’s speech was the participation of charity organizations in helping and saving Jews in Romania and Transnistria (based on materials from the Washington Holocaust Memorial Museum and the E. Wiesel National Institute for Studying the Holocaust in Bucharest). The report aroused the interest of all the participants since now we don’t have solid research on this issue in the modern historiography of the Holocaust. In general, the format of the workshop allowed the participants to discuss topics related to the use of archival sources, research of the history of the Holocaust on the so-called “border areas” (Northern Transylvania, North-Eastern Hungary, Southern Slovakia, Ukraine and Moldova).

Within the framework of the seminar “Tkuma” Institute banners were presented, in particular dedicated to such topics as the Holocaust in Ukraine, the activities of the Einsatzgruppen on Ukrainian territories, the collaboration during the Second World War, the Righteous Among the Nations. This project has aroused lively interest and discussion, especially among Norwegian educators who are also trying to “visualize” the teaching of the Holocaust story for school students. So at the end of the presentation, educators had the opportunity to get set of banner for further use in schools in Norway.
