PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On September 23, 2016 presentation of educational manuals was conducted at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The event was opened by Rayisa Yevtushenko, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. She noted that according to the President’s order methodological instruments for teaching Babyn Yar tragedy had been created. Methodological materials, programs, educational manuals and other materials were created and are now widely used in many schools and other educational institutions of Ukraine. “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies led by Dr. Igor Shchupak played key role in this.

Igor Shchupak presented several collections including teachers’, pupils’ and students’ works created on the base of creative works contests conducted by “Tkuma” Institute and methodological developments for teaching Holocaust history in modern context approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

According to Igor Shchupak: “Main task is to present the Holocaust in historical context; this topic should not be taught separately from historical processes and our vision. The broader the context is, the deeper our understanding of causes and consequences of the Holocaust is.”

The presentation was joined by educators from Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, the USA, as well as journalists and public activists.
