PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

During July 20-22, “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Uktaine” with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine conducted traditional “Summer Studies” for educators – scientists and teachers from all over Ukraine. This year the event was held for the first time together with “Orion” Publishing Center.

Professional discussions on the methodology of history, review of new historical literature, analysis of the problems of studying and teaching the Holocaust history and issues of interethnic relations waited for the event participants. Moreover – textbook development strategies, use of multimedia technologies in “paper” textbooks, modern challenges of school historical education. An important role was played by the dialogue with the leaders of the leading Kyiv publishing house “Orion” – the leader of Ukrainian textbook creation.

Among the events that took place as part of the “Summer Studies”, in particular:

- Round Table “Publishers' strategy in the development of Ukrainian textbook creation: challenges of the New Ukrainian School, “paper” editions and multimedia products”, held by Director of the Ukrainian Educational Publishing Center “Orion” Oleh Kostenko and Editor-in-Chief of “Orion”, member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine Iryna Krasutska. Dr. Igor Shchupak was the moderator of the event.

- Round Table “History of Ukraine, world history, jurisprudence, civic education in the 9th grade of secondary schools: textbook planning”. Members of the author's team of new history textbooks were among the participants in the discussion: Honored Teacher of Ukraine, Deputy Director for NVR of Horodyshche Economic Lyceum of Horodyshche District Council of Cherkasy Region Olena Burlaka; Teacher-Methodologist, History Teacher of Zaporizhzhia multidisciplinary lyceum “Perspective” (Zaporizhzhia) Dmytro Sekirinsky; Director, Teacher of law of the private educational complex “September” of the Kharkiv region Dr. Victoria Pavlovska-Kravchuk; Professor of the Department of Methods of Teaching Social Disciplines and Gender Education, Dean of the Faculty of History of the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, Coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Union of Teachers of Social Disciplines and Civic Education (Kyiv)Dr. Tetiana Meleshenko; Associate Professor of the Department of Methods of Teaching Social Disciplines and Gender Education of the the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, Head of the All-Ukrainian Union of Teachers of Social Disciplines and Civic Education (Kyiv) Namara Bakka etc. Iryna Krasutska and Dr. Igor Shchupak were the moderators of the discussion.

- Round table “Methodological problems of the new history of Ukraine” with the participation of a leading researcher of the Department of History of Ukraine of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Times of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Prof. Borys Cherkas; Senior Researcher of the Department of Special Branches of Historical Science and Electronic Information Resources of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Dr. Cyrilo Galushka; Associate Professor of Political Science, Law and Philosophy, Mykola Gogol Nizhyn State University, history teacher at the Nizhyn Lyceum of the Nizhyn City Council at Mykola Gogol Nizhyn State University Dr. Oleksandra Zheliba etc. Dr. Yehor Vradii, Member of the Ukrainian-Polish Historical Commission, Deputy Director of “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”.
