PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On February 8–9, 2017 Kyiv hosted the 2nd all-Ukrainian methodological seminar for educators “New Ukrainian School: Knowledge about the Holodomor and other Genocides”, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Holodomor Research and Education Centre in Ukraine and Holodomor Research and Education Consortium. Valentyn Rybalka, research associate of “Tkuma” Institute, was invited to participate in the seminar..

The event gathered leading methodologists of regional institutes of advanced teacher training as well as diploma winners of the third (final) round of all-Ukrainian contest “Teacher of the year – 2016” in section “History”.

The seminar was opened by Dr. Liudmyla Hrynevych, Director of Holodomor Research and Education Centre in Ukraine; Pavlo Khobzei, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine; Dr. Volodymyr Viatrovych, Head of Ukrainian Institute of National Memory; Mustafa Dzhemiliev, Authorized Representative of the President of Ukraine for the Crimean Tatars.

The program of event included lectures on multi-disciplinarity in academic research of the Holodomor and other genocides;

- master-class “Method of projects in teaching Holodomor – genocide of the Ukrainian nation” by teacher of history and law of Kyiv upper secondary school “Dialogue” Dr. Zhanna Havryliuk;

- discussion on innovative teaching methods, understanding the nature of genocides and other mass killings from the perspective of respect for human values – with participation of Valentyna Kuryliv (Toronto, via Skype), Kostiantyn Bakhanov (Berdiansk), Hanna Mykhailovych (Mykolaiv), Tetiana Meleshchenko (Kyiv) and others;

- round table “Teaching the History of Ukraine in the Context of World History” – with participation of Lilia Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Dr. Volodymyr Viatrovych, Head of Ukrainian Institute of National Memory;

-exchange of experience in preservation and promulgation of documents on the Holodomor history by leading archivists of Ukraine Olha Bazhan, Svitlana Vlasenko, Iryna Zhurzha;

- presentation, communication with authors and compilers of scholarly editions – Prof. Vladyslav Hrynevych (Kyiv), Zera Bekirova (Simferopol), etc.
