On September 11, 2016 “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum hosted seminar for history teachers of Dnipro region devoted to teaching the history of Holocaust, Holodomor and other genocides. Valentina Kuryliw, Head of Education at Holodomor Research and Education Consortium run by Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (Toronto, Canada), shared Canadian experience in teaching these topics.
Valentina Kuryliw noted that Canadian educational institutions offer a new approach to teaching history, which is different from the Ukrainian one. This approach focuses on activating the student giving him an opportunity to come to certain conclusions by himself. The use of interactive group methods is also important: the child must learn how to work in a group, discuss some topics and problems together and reach consensus.
