On September 5, as part of the publishing program of the International Book Festival “Book Space”, open discussions were held with the participation of “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”.
- Discussion “FIGHTING SPACE AND TIME: HISTORY TEXTBOOKS IN THE CONDITIONS OF DISTANCE LEARNING”, the speakers of which were the director of the separate structural subdivision “Scientific lyceum of international relations” of the University of Customs and Finance Natalya Vlasova, head of the educational programs of “Tkuma” Institute Iryna Piskariova and Dr. Igor Shchupak. During the presentation they talked about the latest approaches to the study of history. Is it possible to teach history without leaving home, and how to interest students to study it? How do modern paper books become multimedia? How to use games while learning? This is a far from complete list of issues raised in the interactive discussion.
“By the way, our listeners had a great opportunity to feel like schoolchildren – to "decipher" anagrams and “word quiz”, to solve crossword puzzles; download videos and video tasks to your smartphones; to explain illustrations, etc., – Dr. Shchupak remarked. - And so, to pass from the fifth class to the eighth - in only 45 minutes! And the most active "students" also received books as a gift, which they chose independently. The discussion lasted a long time after the presentation".
Some books on the history of the Holocaust were presented at the literature presentation, including the world-famous work of Swedish historians Stefan Bruchveld and Paul Levine, “Tell Ye Your Children” (the first Ukrainian edition, including a section on the Holocaust in Ukraine written by Dr. Shchupak) “Tkuma” Institute).
- Discussion "TRANSFORMATION OF THE CULTURE OF MEMORY IN UKRAINE AND DECOMMUNIZATION PROCESSES", the speakers were historian, editor and translator Nadiya Honcharenko, prof. Ihor Kochergin, Iryna Reva, Oleg Rostovtsev, Dr. Igor Shchupak.
During the event, Dr. Oleksandr Hrytsenko’s books on decommunization processes in Ukraine and the politics of memory were presented: “Presidents and Memory. The policy of memory of the presidents of Ukraine (1994-2014): background, message, implementation, results"," Decommunization in Ukraine as a state policy and as a socio-cultural phenomenon". Together with the participants, we discussed the issues of decommunization and decolonization in Ukraine, the transformation of Ukrainian culture and politics of memory in the context of post-Soviet and post-communist changes, as well as their coverage in scientific and public discourses.
