PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On November 8, regular educational seminar was conducted by “Tkuma” Institute, the Holocaust Museum and Dnipro Academy of Continuing Education. The history teachers of the Dnipropetrovsk region visited the Holocaust Museum and joined guided tour conducted by research associated Dr. Olena Ishchenko and Valentyn Rybalka, talked with Iryna Piskariova, coordinator of “Tkuma” Institute Educational Programs, about the possibilities for the teachers to participate in our educational projects and the prospects for further cooperation. Together with Dr. Igor Shchupak, Iryna Piskariova presented a new textbook “Introduction to History” for students of the 5th grade, written in cooperation with talented teacher, winner of the contest “Teacher of the Year" by Olena Burlaka. Interactive textbook “World History” for the 10th grade students, written by Dr. Igor Shchupak, was very interesting for teachers. Among the innovations of the textbook – the introduction of qr-codes, multimedia technology, through which each student and teacher, having a smartphone, will be able to download movie and video clips from a special educational platform developed by “Tkuma” Institute.

In October 09, 2018 “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum welcomed history teachers from Donetsk region. Educators from Dobropillia, led by methodologist Lidiia Denysova, joined the guided tour through the Holocaust Museum exhibition, conducted by Dr. Olena Ishchenko, research associate, and Dr. Denys Shatalov, deputy head of the Research Department.

On September 27, 2018 the regular regional seminar of “Tkuma” Institute, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” and Dnipro Academy of Continuing Education took place. The history teachers of Dnipropetrovsk region visited the Holocaust Museum (educational guided tour was conducted by Vladyslav Bazylevsky), talked with Iryna Piskariova, head of “Tkuma” Institute educational programs, and Dr. Igor Shchupak about the system of reforming the school education in Ukraine. During the meeting with educators, Dr. Igor Shchupak presented a new textbook “Introduction to History” for the 5th grade, written together with Iryna Piskariova and the winner of the "Teacher of the Year" contest Olena Burlaka. Ms. Burlaka was present at the pedagogical seminar, so she had the opportunity to personally tell about the most interesting moments in the creation of this textbook. The proposed style of presentation of the material and interactive tasks caused a great interest of the teachers.

On August 30-31, 2018, Dnipro city welcomed the first stage of International Seminar for History Teachers “The Holocaust by Bullets in the Occupied Territories of the Soviet Union”, organized by “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and French research and education center Yahad-in Unum.

On July 23–26, 2018, Oswiecim (Poland) welcomed seminar for Ukrainian teachers “Auschwitz – History and Symbolism”, Organized by “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and the International Centre for Education of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. This was the first group of educators from Ukraine who became participants in the educational project at Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum.
