PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On November 26, Methodical seminar “Peculiarities of teaching World War II and the Holocaust History in Conditions of Current War Against Ukraine” took place at Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education in Kirovohrad.

Jury Mytrofanenko, assistant professor of the department of theory and methods of secondary education, invited Dr. Igor Shchupak, Director of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, and Iryna Piskariova, “Tkuma” Institute and the Museum Educational Programs Coordinator.

The subject suggested for the seminar is now very relevant and has the call in pedagogues’ circle. “Tkuma” Institute receives invitations from Regional Institutions of Postgraduate Education and methodical associations to give the lecture on how to give unbiased information on World War II and the Holocaust history, on Nazism and fascism under the context of Russian propaganda.

Igor Shchupak’s lecture had raised lively discussion among the participants of the seminar in Kirovohrad Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education. Pedagogues shared their experience, challenges they are faced when teaching World War II and the Holocaust history, and their vision of current situation in Ukraine.

The pedagogues were impressed by the comparative characteristics of totalitarian regimes, which were presented by the lecturer. The attendants of the seminar point out that it is clear and simple way to fight against propaganda, as the students, when indicating features of totalitarian states, come to conclusion that they are not typical for Ukraine without assistance. It means that an accusation in fascism dominating in our state is not unbiased.
The seminar was completed with the informal dialogue with the pedagogues, during which Iryna Piskariova presented “Tkuma” Institute educational programs and published literature to the participants.
