On November 24, regular meeting of the working group on preparation of information and methodology materials about events in Ukraine in 2013 – 2014, and the Revolution of Dignity and Russian-Ukrainian war in particular informs the press-service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The discussion was joined by: Pavlo Polyansky, Deputy Minister of Education and Science; Volodymyr Holovko, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Institute of History of Ukraine NAS of Ukraine; Raisa Yevtushenko, Chief Specialist of General, Secondary and Preschool Education Department at MESU; Oleksandr Palyi, Candidate of Political Sciences, the Institute of External Policy within the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine's Foreign Ministry; Sergiy Terno, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Zaporizhzhya National University; Oksana Cherevko, Associate Professor at the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University; Igor Shchupak, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Director of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”; Sergiy Janiszewski, Candidate of Historical Sciences, National Institute for Strategic Studies.
At present the experts are developing the materials in two formats: for pupils – in the form of additional paragraph to textbook, which would contain visual material as well; for teachers – as expanded methodological material. Both formats will cover events of the Revolution of Dignity, Russian-Ukrainian war, political processes such as presidential and parliament elections etc. The materials will be of free access both in printed and e-format. Printed materials will be distributed to comprehensive schools. The materials will be added to the 11th grade school curricula on the history of Ukraine.
In contrast to the distributed methodological material, the addendum to the textbooks will have more condensed form, info graphics and illustrations will take half of the content. According to Pavlo Polyansky this paragraph is intended to help pupils to structure their knowledge on the general revolution and war events in Ukraine, which are well-known to many pupils and teachers.
“The paragraph shall also be formed on the basis of “open” questions and pupils discussions, which do not have unambiguous answer, but not on the monological presentation of the material”, – stated the Deputy Minister.
As it was already said, this year’s tasks dealing with the Revolution of Dignity and Russian-Ukrainian war are also included to the External Independent Evaluation tests on the history of Ukraine.
Two groups of experts and historians are working on the creation of pedagogical materials for pedagogues and the paragraph for pupils. The material will be prepared by the beginning of 2015.
