PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On December 3, a meeting was held at the premises of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in Kyiv, attended by Dr. Igor Shchupak, co-author of the Concept. The meeting was opened by Dr. Igor Khvorostyanyi, Head of the School Education Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and the heads of the Working Group on the Development of the “Conceptual Principles of Reforming School History Education”: Raysa Yevtushenko, Chief Specialist of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and Dr. Lyudmila Hrynevych, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Director of the Ukrainian Research and Educational Center for the Study of the Holodomor.

The tasks of the approved “Conceptual Principles” by the Ministry of Education and Science, Lyudmila Hrynevych, were defined as deepening the teaching of Ukrainian history without isolationism, with an understanding of what is important in world history; a significant increase in teaching time for teaching history at school and the introduction of concentrations – an approach in which students will comprehend the material at different stages of learning, first obtaining elementary knowledge, and then studying in greater depth.

The discussion of the “Conceptual Principles” and ways of its implementation in the system of history education was attended by well-known Ukrainian scientists – Prof. Natalia Starchenko, Prof. Igor Hyrych, Prof. Kostyantyn Bakhanov (online), as well as history teachers, methodologists, and textbook authors.

Naturally, among the “complex issues of history” that students must study, genocides occupy a special place.

Work on the document and its “roadmap” will continue at a series of seminars to be held in Kyiv in the first half of 2025.
