On January 27, “Tkuma” Institute held an educational event for the public of Odesa, dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance. Yuliana Omelchenko, long-term director of the library greeted the participants in M. Hrushevsky regional scientific library. Yaroslava Riznikova, head of the department of culture, nationalities and religions of the Department of Culture, Nationalities, Religions and Protection of Cultural Heritage Objects of the Odesa Regional State Administration, delivered a meaningful report on models of preserving the memory of the Holocaust in Ukraine and other countries.
Dr. Igor Shchupak's speech was devoted to the universal significance of the Holocaust memory in the context of other genocides. Historian and public figure, founder of the Odesa Museum of the Holocaust Pavlo Kozlenko spoke about the creation of a new genocide museum “Territory of Memory” in Odesa. Among the meaningful components of the Museum's exposition is the story of the Armenian Genocide of 1915, the Holodomor of 1932-1933, the Holocaust, the genocide against the Roma, the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people, and the modern genocide against the Ukrainian people, which is carried out by the leadership and armed forces of the Russian Federation. “It is a great honor for me,” said Dr. Shchupak, “that I was invited to participate in the development and implementation of this unique and large-scale project.
