On January 22, Ukrainians around the world commemorate the 105th anniversary of the proclamation of the Act of Unification of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic. It was this event that marked the eternal desire of Ukrainians, who were subjects of various empires due to objective reasons, to their own Ukrainian Cathedral State.
A round table was organized and held by the Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration to commemorate this important event – the Day of Unity of Ukraine. Not only representatives of the Dnipro region took part in it, but also Ukrainians from other parts of our Motherland (Transcarpathia, Lviv region, Bukovyna, Poingulya, Slobozhan region, Poltava region) and even from abroad (Poland). The event was moderated by the director of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies, Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine – Dr. Igor Shchupak.
The Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration – Deputy Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Regional Administration, Dr. Iryna Hrytsai, as well as the Head of the Department of Culture, Tourism, Nationalities and Religions of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Regional State Administration, Nataliya Pershina, addressed all those present with a welcoming speech, who emphasized that over the past two years, the feeling of unity and aspiration to the unity of Ukraine are integral components of the struggle for Independence in the struggle against the imperial aspirations of the aggressor country – the Russian Federation.

Head of the Department of History of Ukraine at the Oles Honchar Dnipro National University, Dr. Olha Posunko pointed out that the Day of Unity of Ukraine is an occasion to think about and accept oneself, to reject the myths imposed from the outside about the differences and disagreements between Ukrainians of the West and the East. Instead, now, under the conditions of the war for Independence, for the very right to the existence of the Ukrainian State, it is worth cherishing what unites us, first of all – the desire for Freedom.
Head of the Department of History of Ukraine and the Region 1917-1945 of the Dnipropetrovsk National Historical Museum Tetyana Tsymlyakova told the audience about what the first Sobornosty Day was like – back then in 1919. A huge number of people who gathered on Sofia Square in Kyiv on that frosty sunny day witnessed a historic event in the life of our country. It is important that among them there was a significant representation of the Dnieper region - people who contributed to the development of the Ukrainian People's Republic in our city. The head of the Scientific and Editorial Center of the Regional Editorial Board for the preparation and publication of the volume of the book series “Rehabilitated by History” Dr. Andrii Lymar emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of those Ukrainians of various ethnic and religious affiliations who paid and are paying the highest price for the Ukrainian Cathedral – own life.
