On April 04–05, annual scientific and practical conference "Zaporizhzhia Jewish Readings - 2019" was held in Zaporizhzhia at Zaporizhzhia National University. «Tkuma» Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies, Museum «Jewish memory and Holocaust in Ukraine» and Zaporizhzhia National University became the organizers of the event.
Prof. Volodymyr Milechev, dean of the history faculty of Zaporizhzhia National University opened the conference. Prof. Henadii Vasylchuk, vice-rector on scientific work of ZNU Prof. Volodymyr Orlyanskyi, professor of political science and law department of ZNU, Dr. Igor Shchupak, director of «Tkuma» Institute and the Holocaust Museum greeted the participants at the opening of the event.
After that, Prof. Volodymyr Milechev, Dr. Vladyslav Hrybovskyi and Dr. Igor Shchupak made speeches at the plenary session. Then the conference continued work in the format of sections – «History and historical memory» and «Philosophy and philology».
The historical section covered various stories related to the history of Jews in Ukraine and the world in the XVIII–XXI centuries. Dr. Oleksandr Davletov, Dr. Roman Moldavskyi, Dr. Vyacheslav Mayorskyi, Dr. Yiliia Golovko, Dr. Viktor Filas, Dr. Petro Boiko, Dr. Tetiana Grusheva, Dr. Serhii Bilivnenko, Iryna Tochylina, Arina Voznenko, Serhii Zvilinskyi, Tetiana Chernenko, Nina Avramenko, Tetiana Tatarina, Roman Pruglo and others presented to the Zaporizhzhia Readings participants of the his work.
The questions of Jewish history and culture coverage in artistic works were considered at the Philosophy and Philology Section. Prof. Iryna Pavlenko, Dr. Natalia Gorbach, Dr. Tetiana Kheilik, Oleksandra Mystetska, Liudmyla Kotova, Liudmyla Nikrasovska, Geng Liping made reports in these sections.
During the Round Table «World War II and the Holocaust history study in social and humanitarian disciplines», the new standards of school history education, history programs and textbooks, methodology and multimedia were discussed. Scientists and teachers exchanged their experiences in the methodology of World War II and the Holocaust history teaching. Speeches were made by Dr. Mariya Parhomenko, Dr. Vyacheslav Mayorskyi, Valentyna Obodovska, Svitlana Shlyaeva.
Pedagogical seminar for history teachers and methodologists of Zaporizhzhia region was held in parallel with the conference work. Olena Burlaka, deputy head of Horodyshchensʹkyy lyceum, honorary teacher of Ukraine (Cherkasy region), Iryna Piskariova, head of educational programs of «Tkuma» Institute, Dr. Igor Shchupak became the moderators of the seminar.
The conference finished with a guided tour to the Khortytsia Island.
