December 02, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” hosted presentation of two documentaries of the project “More than Crimea”, created by Ismail Gasprinsky Institute of Geostrategy. The heroes of these films devoted their lives to the struggle for the right of the Crimean Tatar people to live freely in their homeland. During the event, which gathered many guests – Muslims, Christians, Jews – the following documentaries were screened:
- “Noman Chelebidzhihan. Leader of the people”. The difficult fate of Noman Chelebidzhihan faced organization the First Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People (1917) and the revival of the Crimean Tatar statehood. He was endowed with strong will and spirit, advocating the unity and peaceful coexistence of all the ethnic groups living in the Crimea;
- “Mustafa Dzhemilev. Son of the Crimea”. Mustafa Dzhemilev is the most famous contemporary representative of the Crimean Tatar people in the world. The fighter, “Ukrainian Mahatma Gandhi” (according to Myroslav Marynovich’s words), he chose his incredibly difficult way consciously and became a true Leader of the Crimean Tatar people.
Speakers of the event: Head of the League of Crimean Tatar women, the wife of the leader of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev Safinar Dzhemileva, General Director of Ismail Gasprinsky Institute of Geostrategy Nariman Ustaev, historian, scriptwriter of the project “More than Crimea” Gulnara Bekirova, Professor of the Ukrainian Free University in Munich, researcher at Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute Gennadi Pobereƶny, Dr. Igor Shchupak.
Together they were looking for answers to important questions of our time: How does an average person become extraordinary? Is it possible to compromise with the aggressor? Can the peaceful resistance be successful and how to deal with historical myths? These and other issues caused a lively discussion.
