On May 07, 2018, Efraim Halevy, legendary leader of the Mossad in 1998–2002 (worked in this organization since 1961), visited “Menorah” Center and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”. The guided tour through the exhibition was conducted by Dr. Igor Shchupak and Dr. Denys Shatalov, who shared interesting facts about the history of the Jews of Ukraine and the well-known events of our days.
During World War II Efraim Halevy was a child. He grew up in northern London and dreamed of becoming a machinist of the train, but his life turned to a completely different direction. In 1948 he decided to go to Palestine to take part in the creation of a Jewish state. After many years of brilliant career in Israeli intelligence, in 1998, Halevy became head of the Mossad and made number of key decisions for Israel’s contemporary history. It was Efraim Halevy who developed the strategy of targeted elimination of Palestinian terrorists and initiated the withdrawal of Israel from the Gaza Strip.
In 2002-2003, he served as chairman of the National Security Council and advisor to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, and since 2003 taught at the Jewish University in Jerusalem.
