On May 06, 2018 Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” hosted opening of the exhibition “Risking Lives. Rescue of Jews by Poles during the Holocaust”, which presents the faces, histories and motives of the Poles who rescued Jews during World War II. Dnipro became the first Ukrainian city to welcome the unique exhibition created by POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews (Warsaw) with the support of the Polish Institute in Kyiv and “Tkuma” Institute.

Welcoming speeches during the opening were made by Jan Zdanowski, Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv, Maria Zaichenko, curator of the exhibition, employee of the Polish Institute in Kyiv, Dr. Igor Shchupak, director of “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum. The first mini-guided tour through the exhibition was held by Dr. Iegor Vradii, head of the Research Department of the Museum.

After the opening ceremony, discussion was organized with the participation of the project’s creators. Through video connection participants were able to talk with the representative POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews Joanna Król (Israel), who told about the stages of the exhibition creation and its concept. During a lively discussion, participants also discussed motives for rescuing Jews by representatives of other nationalities, the importance of gathering evidences of eyewitnesses of World War II and the Holocaust, and the need to preserve the memory of the tragic pages of the past.

The exhibition is open at Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” by mid-July.
