PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

During August 17–27, 2017 summer school “Polish Jewry as Cultural and Historical Phenomenon” was conducted in Poland. The School was organized by the Sefer Center in cooperation with Institute of History of the University of Warsaw, and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews of Polin, with the support of the Genesis Philanthropy Group and UJA Federation of NY. 37 young researchers from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany were selected to participate in program. Maryna Strilchuk, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” Research Associate, took part in the summer school.

Within the framework of the school, participants joined mini-courses and lectures devoted to various aspects of the historical and cultural heritage of Polish Jewry. Classes were conducted by historians, specialists in Jewish history Dr. Eleonora Bergman (Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw), Dr. Semyon Goldin (Hebrew University of Jerusalem), Dr. Arthur Markovsky, Dr. Anna Michalovska-Mychelska, Prof. Shimon Rudnitsky (Warsaw University), Dr. Victoria Mochalova (Institute for Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences), and others. Particular attention was paid to the coexistence and mutual influence of Jews and Poles in various fields, Jewish-Polish relations during different periods of history.

Lectures were held at the Institute of History of Warsaw University, the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (Warsaw) and at the Center of Jewish Culture (Krakow). In addition to classes, participants joined bus and walking tours around Warsaw, including the former Jewish quarter and cemetery, Christian part of the city, as well as visited Warsaw museums and research centers.
