On September 27, 2018 the regular regional seminar of “Tkuma” Institute, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” and Dnipro Academy of Continuing Education took place. The history teachers of Dnipropetrovsk region visited the Holocaust Museum (educational guided tour was conducted by Vladyslav Bazylevsky), talked with Iryna Piskariova, head of “Tkuma” Institute educational programs, and Dr. Igor Shchupak about the system of reforming the school education in Ukraine. During the meeting with educators, Dr. Igor Shchupak presented a new textbook “Introduction to History” for the 5th grade, written together with Iryna Piskariova and the winner of the "Teacher of the Year" contest Olena Burlaka. Ms. Burlaka was present at the pedagogical seminar, so she had the opportunity to personally tell about the most interesting moments in the creation of this textbook. The proposed style of presentation of the material and interactive tasks caused a great interest of the teachers.
With great interest, the teachers met another novelty – the interactive textbook “World History” for the 10th grade students, written by Dr. Igor Shchupak. The new educational edition presents themes from the First to the Second World War, the formation of totalitarianism and the Holocaust. One of the innovations in the textbook is the introduction of “Historical interviews” with well-known Ukrainian and foreign historians who answer the difficult questions of history, put forward by the new curriculum.
