On June 20–21, the first meeting of the Oral History Club, initiated by the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance was held in Zaporizhzhia. The event was held at the historical faculty of Zaporizhzhia National University. The aim of the new Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance project is to share experiences on the oral history promotion. Therefore, various topics of the theory and practice of gathering and publishing oral testimony have become cross-cutting topics for discussion during the club meeting. Ethical issues of popularizing stories, the limit of privacy and publicity in the process of promulgating memories, the problem of their verification were also discussed. Dr. Olena Ishchenko, researcher of “Tkuma” Institute. was invited to participate in the club meeting.
Prof. Igor Lyman (Berdyansk State Pedagogical University), Dr. Serhii Bilivnenko, Dr. Oleksii Steinle (Zaporizhzhia National University), Tetiana Kovtunovych (Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Kyiv) represented their own oral historiographical projects. The speeches of Dr. Tetiana Oryvalenko (Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance), Natalia Drobkova (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv), Anna Prokhorova (Jewish Center of the National University of "Kyiv-Mohyla Academy") were devoted to the problems of the formation and functioning of oral testimony archives. Dr. Olena Ishchenko shared the experience of the exhibition and excursion work of the Museum "Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine" with the use of verbal evidences. Many constructive thoughts were discussed during the reports.
The club's activity program included a tour component: the participants of the meeting visited the Zaporizhzhia Regional Museum and the Khortytsia Island.
