On March 5, the public hearings on the Dnipro Street renaming in honor of Zubkov family – Righteous Among the Nations was held in the Soborna Dnipro Rada. Zubkov family rescued Jewish 9-year-old girl Nelly Gordon. The renaming was held in the frameworks of the program, which foresee that some streets in cities and in region settlements will be named in honor of the Ukrainian Righteous. There are already more than 10 of such examples.
Previously, city committee on Dnipro street renaming suggested to the Dnipro City Council on «Tkuma» Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum «Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine» initiative to consider the following opportunity; to choose Yasna street, in particular, to avoid duplicate street names (there are two streets in Dnipro whuch has «Yasna» name). Moreover, Yasna street situated near the places where the Nazis executed the Jewish population in October 1941.
Volodymyr Garkusha, deputy chairman of the district council, Dr. Iegor Vradii, Dr. Denys Shatalov, Dr. Igor Shchupak opened the hearings. After the public discussion voting of all present and entering data into the minutes of public hearings, which later will be submitted for consideration by relevant local authorities were held.
