On August 2, the world commemorates the victims of the genocide of the Roma. On the night of 2 to 3 August 1944, 2 897 of Roma were killed in gas chambers of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
In this camp out of 23 000 of Roma, reported from 14 countries, about 20 000 people died. In general, according to different calculations, from 500 000 to 1 000 000 people became victims of the Nazi policy of the extermination of the Roma.
