During January 24–26, 2017 “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” hosted educational Seminar “Educational Programs in Museum Space (Exchange of International Experience in Teaching Holocaust). The seminar gathered representatives of Jewish Museum Berlin, Museum “Topography of Terror”, “House of Wannsee Conference” (Germany), National Museum of History of Ukraine in World War II, Lviv National Art Gallery named after Voznytsky, National Museum of History of Ukraine, Dnipro Art Museum.

During the seminar participants discussed concept of museums and their educational opportunities, participants described the experience of educational work in their museums. Museum lesson for senior school students was organized. Special focus of the lessons was work with archive of the Holocaust Museum. The seminar participants also learnt more about such forms of educational work of “Tkuma” Institute as the lessons of tolerance and mobile educational exhibitions.

Due to city tour, conducted by Valentyn Rybalka, educators from Ukraine and Germany got an opportunity to explore the Jewish history of Dnipro and learn more about the features of the “final solution of the Jewish question” in our region.

The last day of the seminar, January 26, was held simultaneously with large-scale events dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day, organized by “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum. In particular educators joined the ceremony of donation of unique exhibits to the Holocaust Museum by Natalia Feduschak (UJE); presentation of books on Babyn Yar history and Ukrainian-Jewish relations; opening of new photo-exhibition “Lest We Forget” created by Luigi Toscano.

Educators from National Museum of History of Ukraine in World War II shared their impressions of the participation in the seminar: “We would like to thank you for the warm welcome, hospitality and fascinating cultural program organized during the visit. It was a great honor for us to get such a wonderful opportunity to attend the seminar and meet your team of professionals. Frankly speaking, we were delighted by the level of work of your employees. We hope that this meeting and a number of activities you organize will strengthen and promote the development of our friendship and will also serve as impetus for further fruitful cooperation. With respect and best wishes, Oleksandr Pasternak and Alla Hrushetska”.
