PRESENTATION OF “TKUMA” INSTITUTE PUBLICATIONS  IN COOPERATION WITH THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE OF UKRAINE

On January 27, 2016 Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” hosted the Holocaust Memorial Ceremony. By the decision of the UN General Assembly dated November 1, 2005 each year International Holocaust Remembrance Day in marked in January 27. This day in 1945 the troops of the First Ukrainian Front liberated the Polish town of Oświęcim, where Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, terrible symbol of the Holocaust and Nazi crimes during World War II, was located.

On January 15, 2016 Ukrainian Catholic University hosted the session of German Ukrainian Commission of Historians.

The Commission work was joined by Martin Schulze Wessel (Co-Chair of the Commission), Guido Hausmann (both represented Ludwig Maximilians University Munich), Tanja Penter (Heidelberg University), Prof. Jutta Scherrer (School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences), Prof. Yaroslav Hrytsak (Co-Chair of the Commission, Ukrainian Catholic University), Prof. Yuri Shapoval (NAS of Ukraine), Prof. Oleksandr Lysenko (Institute of History of Ukraine , NAS of Ukraine), Prof. Helinada Hrinchenko (Chief Editor of “Ukraine Moderna”), Prof. Polina Barvinska (I. Mechnikov Odesa National University), Prof. Frank Sysyn (University of Alberta, Canada), Dr. Igor Shchupak (“Tkuma” Institute, the Holocaust Museum). Mark vonHagen (Arizona State University) participated in the Commission work as invited guest.

On December 2, 2015 within the framework of the project "See Ukraine With Your Own Eyes" "Tkuma" Institute and Museum "Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine" welcomed the regular group of Russian activists. Due to this project public activists, journalists, bloggers have an opportunity to get acquainted with modern Ukraine via direct visit to the country but not via TV. The project is organized by Russian Center "The Image of the Future" (Oleg Kozlovsky) in cooperation with Internews Ukraine (Volodymyr Hushuley).

On November 15 World Day of Jewish Education was celebrated in Dnipropetrovsk. On this occasion leading presenters held lectures, master classes and workshops in the "Menora" Center. Dr Igor Shchupak, "Tkuma" Institute and the Holocaust Museum Director, held a lecture-discussion for members of "Hillel" Dnipropetrovsk student organization and sessions for members of "Solomonika" Jewish cultural center. 

Both sessions were devoted to the theme of historical myths and their impact on modern society. Each lecture was followed by a discussion of range of current issues, including modern socio-political situation in Ukraine and the world. 

November 5-8, 2015 Lviv hosted International Conference Limmud Ukraine 2015. For more than 30 years the annual conferences are held around the world gathering from several hundred to thousands of participants. In 2008 Limud was held in Ukraine for the first time.

Among the speakers of Limmud Ukraine 2015 there were: Eliav Belotsercovsky, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Ukraine; photographer Borys BukhmanAharon Weiss, Holocaust researcher, Joint Program Coordinator in CIS, Scholarly Adviser of "Tkuma" Institute; Lyudmyla Hrynevych, Director of the Holodomor Ukrainian Research Center, a leading researcher at the Institute of History of NASU; human rights activist and writer Larysa Denysenko; Sofia Dyak, Director of the Center for Urban History; composer, actor, and director Mike Kaufman-Portnіkov; Myroslav Marynovych, Ukrainian dissident, Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University; Igor Shchupak, "Tkuma" Institute and Museum "Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine" Director, and others.
