On April 11, 2017 Sumy welcomed seminar on problems of teaching World War II and the Holocaust history at secondary schools and reforms of history education in Ukraine. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Igor Shchupak, “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum director, and Iryna Piskariova, “Tkuma” Institute Educational Programs Coordinator.

The idea to conduct such event was supported by Sumy Regional Institute of Advanced Teacher Training and Scientific and Methodological Center of Department of Education of Sumy City Council.

During the educational seminar, which gathered history teachers of secondary and vocational educational institutions of the city and the region, participants addressed the issues of historical memory of World War II and the Holocaust, their reflection in museums and in the pages of school textbooks, the history of genocide in the context of history of Ukraine and World history. Special attention was paid to the project “New Ukrainian School”, Ukrainian and European experience in creating history textbooks and modern electronic (multimedia) manuals.
