14 INTERNATIONAL CREATIVE WORKS CONTEST

FOR SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, POSTGRADUATES AND TEACHERS

“LESSONS OF WAR AND HOLOCAUST – LESSONS OF TOLERANCE”

The Contest is opened for representatives of Ukraine and other countries:

- 8−11 grade students of schools, gymnasiums, lyceums;

- secondary schools teachers;

- supervising teachers and organizers of educational work at secondary schools;

- students and postgraduates.

Contest time frame: March – September 2017

Application deadline – June 15, 2017

Deadline for submitting the paper – August 1, 2017

Summing up, awarding Contest winners and laureates – September 25−28, 2017

 


The following types of works can be accepted:

1. Research works on history, literature, philosophy, sociology, political science and other humanities and social sciences.

2. Search works (interviews, researches on local or family materials, etc.).

3. Creative works (essays, stories, poems, paintings, documentaries, journalistic and documentary films, animated films, multimedia works and other works).

4. Teachers’ methodological developments.

  16. “Jewish question” in Bolsheviks/Ukrainian Government/White Guards in national politics at the time of the Ukrainian revolution.
  17. “Vistula” operation and its impact on the formation of the Ukrainian community in Poland in the second half of the 20th c.
  18.  The Holodomor - a tragedy of Ukraine and humanity.
  19. Extermination of peoples based on ethnic origin: philosophical, psychological and historical aspects.
  20. The Holocaust in Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, and Russia.
  21. The Nazi policy of extermination of Roma (Gypsies) during the World War II.
  22. Ukrainian nationalism and the “Jewish question” during the Holocaust.
  23. The genocide of Slavic population of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia.
  24. The Soviet policy of Holocaust suppression.
  25. “Nazi extermination machine”: mechanisms of action and genocide counteraction.
  26. Ukraine under the influence of dual terror: Nazi Germany and the Stalinist regime.
  27. Ukrainians – Righteous among the Nations.
  28. The role of spiritual leaders of Ukrainian and other nations in critical periods of trials.
  29. Interethnic help and social solidarity in times of World War II tragic trials.
  30. Modern Ukrainian society and the Holocaust lessons (psychological, social aspects).
  31. Interreligious tolerance as a manifestation of moral and spiritual choice.
  32. International experience of responsibility for denying the facts of genocide in history.
  33. Activities of modern international organizations, government agencies and public organizations in Ukraine to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and prevent genocides in future.
  34. The historical lessons of the Holocaust and the current problems of tolerance.
  35. Propaganda as a weapon of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes to justify genocide and military aggression: from Goebbels propaganda to modern samples.
  36. The problems of studying World War II and the Holocaust history during today’s war against Ukraine.

Recommended types teachers’ contest works

Methodical development on teaching these subjects during the lessons or extracurricular activities as well as training materials, including: detailed outlines for lessons, tutorials or texts for some sections of educational tutorials and manuals, scripts of extracurricular activities, educational films, educational computer software, multimedia, Web-sites, etc.

Contest Awards:

the best works are awarded with special Diplomas of three degrees and valuable presents;

the works by winners are recommended for publication by “Tkuma” Institute and posting on its websites;

winners are invited to participate in international seminars, conferences and other international events.
