School of Young Guide HistoryLabs – a joint project of Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” and “Tkuma” Institute, which is supported by Limmud FSU Labs – started on March 14! About 30 most motivated participants from Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia – students and graduates of historical faculties of Oles Honchar DNU and ZNU, researchers of Dmytro Yavornytsky National Historical Museum, Museum of the History of Dnipro, Museum of the History of Pilots of the Dnieper rapids, teachers and public figures - came together to learn more about the past of their region, gain new knowledge and impressions and learn an interesting profession guide.

Today the first interactive lectures from well-known historians were held for the school participants. Dr. Igor Shchupak gave a lecture-presentation “How to create a world-class museum in a three-room apartment”. On the example of the history of Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, other projects discussed approaches to creating business plans; fundraising issues; general principles of construction of scientific and educational projects; focused on the general principles of public speaking (teachers, public figures, politicians, guides have many similar tasks). Dr. Maksym Kavun, historian, culturologist, local historian, head of the “Museum of the History of Local Government of the Dnipropetrovsk region” of Dmytro Yavornytsky National Historical Museum conducted a brilliant lesson "The profession of a guide, or why the city needs storytellers?".

An interesting tradition – now, as in some other international projects of “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, among the “listeners” are students and doctors of science; historians and philologists, organizers of the tourism business and transport, – said Dr. Shchupak. – And the process of TRAINING IS BILATERAL: Me and the staff of “Tkuma” Institute and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” can learn a lot from our colleagues from the museums of our region and universities. Today, the first interactive classes were held for school participants".

Several months of productive work are waiting for our participants: there will be history classes and psychological training, express language classes and field trips, meetings with famous scientists and writers. So, we wish inspiration and success to our future graduates!
