During October 19–22, 2017, Odesa welcomed International Limmud Conference. Dr. Igor Shchupak, Director of “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies and Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, took part in the Limmud Conference as a presenter and conducted several lectures-presentations.

One of the first lectures was dedicated to the topic “How the Nazis Punished Ukrainians for Rescuing, Robbing, Killing and Hiding Jews during the Holocaust”. Presentation of the historian about World War II and the Holocaust was based on the found unique archival documents. They cover the work of the Nazi courts, which condemned Ukrainians, Poles and other inhabitants of occupied Ukraine “for hiding Jews”; “for the robbing Jews”; “for the murdering Jews”.

The next presentation was dedicated to the topic “Who rewrites a story? Jews, and not only, in the new Ukrainian textbooks” (with the support of a joint project of “Tkuma” Institute and Yad Vashem). Together with the lecturer, the participants were acquainted with Polish, Russian and Ukrainian textbooks, discussed the presentation of various historical events in various editions.

During Limmud Conference, joint presentation with Chaim Ben Yakov, Roman Kogan, and Osik Axelrod. They talked about the work of international Jewish organizations. Among other things, participants discussed the chances of Jewish communities’ survival in Ukraine after 50 and later.
