On November 27–28, All-Ukrainian seminar “New standards, programs, tutorials, and challenges in school history education”, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and “Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies was held in Chernihiv.

Rayisa Yevtushenko, chief specialist at the Department for the Content of Education, Language Policy and Education of National Minorities of the Department of General Secondary and Preschool Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine set the task before the participants of the seminar of finding the answers to the challenges facing school history today.

Famous scientists, methodologists, specialists of Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, teachers, publishers became participants of the seminar. 

Methods and features of encouraging students to World War II and the Holocaust history study, photos in the Holocaust topic teaching, the use of oral history material (including video testimonials) during World War II and the Holocaust history studies, etc. were discussed during 2 days seminar. Particular attention was paid to the importance of engaging a regional approach in this topic study, related to the Holocaust tragedy, as well as the need to tell students about Jewish resistance to the extermination and the Righteous among the Nations feat. These questions aroused a lively discussion among teachers who shared their experiences in the Holocaust teaching in schools.

The meeting with methodologists of history of regional institutes of postgraduate pedagogical education was held within the frameworks of the seminar, Rayisa Yevtushenko and Konstantyn Bakhanov, professor of Law Department of Berdyansk State Pedagogical University, doctor of pedagogical sciences became it’s moderators. Lecture-discussion by Dr. Oleksandr Mokrohuz, the head of Social Disciplines and Methods of it’s Teaching Department, docent of Chernihiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education named after Kostiantyn Dmytrovych Ushynsky on “Media education in social disciplines teaching” also waited for the participants.

During the seminar Dr. Igor Shchupak had the honor to receive the Ministry of Education and Scuences award from Rayisa Yevtushenko “For scientific and educational achievements”. Our sincerely congratulations on the award!
