INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARY CONFERENCE

The Ukrainian-Polish Borderlands under the Soviet Regime 1939-1941: Ukrainian, Polish, Jewish Social Life and Relationships

 

 

 

Tkuma” (“Renascence”) All-Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies (Dnipropetrovsk) jointly with Polish Center for Holocaust Research, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology and Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw) are to hold the International Scholary ConferenceThe Ukrainian-Polish Borderlands under the Soviet Regime 1939-1941: Ukrainian, Polish, Jewish Social Life and Relationships in Lviv on June 17-20, 2007 . The conference is organized under the auspices of Task Force for International cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research and the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.

 

 

The following issues will be considered on the conference:

- everyday life and relationships between Ukrainians, Poles and Jews in Western Ukraine under the Soviet Regime 1939-1941.;

- religious life;

- social and political activities;

- changes in economic life, property structure;

- changes in the social structuretransformation from national division into the class society;

- myth and facts about collaboration with Soviet authorities;

- “sovietization” of Ukrainians, Poles and Jews cultural life etc.

 

The significant part of the conference will be the lectures by well-known Polish scholars:

Prof. Grzegorz Mazur, Jagiellonian University, Krakow; Department of Political Sciences and International Relationships: "Kolaboracja, opór, przystosowanie. Polacy, Ukraińcy i Żydzi Małopolski Wschodniej wobec okupanta sowieckiego w latach 1939 - 1941".

Dr Grzegorz Motyka, Institute of National Remembrance, Main Commission for Investigation of Crimes against the Polish Citizens, Institute of Political Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences: “Stosunek OUN do Polaków i Żydów 1939- 1941”.

Dr Bolesław Gogol, adiunkt, Gdansk University, Research Institute for Contemporary History and Political Sciences in XIX and XX centuries: “Polska lewica komunistyczna we Lwowie - postawy i dylematy. Na przykładzie Środowiska redakcji Czerwonego Sztandaru w latach 1939 – 1941”.

Dr hab. Andrzej Żbikowski, Institute of National Remembrance, Public Education Bureau, Jewish Historical Institute, Polish Center for Jewish Studies: “Niełatwa codzienność. Stosunki polsko - żydowskie na Kresach Wschodnich II RP pod okupacją sowiecką”.

Dr Grzegorz Hryciuk, adiunkt, Wroclaw University, Department of History and Pedagogy, Historical Instuitute: “Życie codzienne we Lwowie 1939 - 1941 i wzajemne relacje Polaków, Żydow i Ukrainców pod okupacją sowiecką”.

Dr Sławomir Kalbarczyk, Institute of National Remembrance, Main Commission for Investigation of Crimes against the Polish Citizens: “Terror jako czynnik kształtujący Życie codzienne i stosunki wzajemne miedzy Polakami, Ukraińcami i Żydami na tzw. Zachodniej Ukrainie w latach 1939 – 1941”.

Dr Agnieszka Cieślikowa, Jagiellonian University, Krakow; Department of Polish Language: “Prasa we Lwowie w okresie 1939-1941 (polskiej, żydowskiej, ukraińskiej)”.

 

If you are interested in taking part in the Conference, you are welcomed to send us the potential lectures’ topics, your regalia and job occupation till May 17, 2007 . The Organization Committee will consider the applied projects and make the decision till May 26, 2007 ð.

 

The conference organizers cover travel expenses and food and board costs in Lviv during the conference.
