INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY IN DNIPROPETROVSK

 

On January, 27th Tkuma Center has conducted commemoration ceremony by the Holocaust Victims’ Memorial at Gagarin Park. Heads and activists of Dnepropetrovsk Jewish Community, journalists of Jewish and Ukrainian mass media and representatives of the public were invited to take part in the ceremony.

In spite of cold weather which prevented veterans from participating in the ceremony about 40 persons have gathered to commemorate the memory of Holocaust victims. To the participants have spoken Amir Ben Zvi, JDC Representative in Dnepropetrovsk, Mark Shlyak, Chairman of Tkuma All-Ukrainian Center for Holocaust Studies Advisory Committee, Elena Karol, Israeli Cultural Center Director, O. Tovkach, Hillel Director in Dnepropetrovsk and S. Flaks, Head of Board of Jewish Veterans of War in Dnepropetrovsk. G. Korol, Head of Jewish Religious Community, has read the commemoration prayer. The commemoration ceremony has been widely covered in mass media.

On January, 27th students has met with Holocaust survivors.

On January 23rd-28th Tkuma museum educational mobile exhibition “Rescue for the Sake of Justice” has been organized in Dnepropetrovsk Jewish School #144.
